About Us
Developed by newspaper veteran Bruce Lantz, who visualized a region united by one publication carrying all-local news and events from the area, the Northeast NEWS has established itself as the best-read publication of any kind in the region.
Full of interesting people and events, presented in a colourful, easy-to-read manner, the Northeast NEWS is designed with readers in mind, planned to give them what they want – not what some corporation wants to force them to read.
The concept was simple: Produce a publication that focuses exclusively on local news, sports, features and events, and then distribute it free by Canada Post to every home and business in Northeastern BC – from Tumbler Ridge to the Yukon border and from Chetwynd to the Alberta border. It was a new concept for the area but in just two short years the various communities have ‘adopted’ this independent, local publication as their own.
“For years other publications have filled their pages with wire service news from around the world, news their readers are more comfortable getting from television, radio or newspapers from larger centres like Vancouver or Edmonton,” says Lantz, who served as publisher of the Alaska Highway News, the Peace River Block News and the Northerner before launching his own newspaper.
“We wanted to do more than just pay lip service to local news, events and issues. It’s our belief that these things are the fabric that holds the Northeast together and as such deserve the publicity we can give. We hope it helps people in the various parts of the region feel connected to each other.”
To make this venture happen, Lantz assembled a veteran team of journalists, salespeople and graphic arts designers. The result? A colourful, well-produced and easy-to-read tabloid newspaper that’s getting rave reviews from readers and advertisers alike. Now the others are imitating it; the sincerest form of flattery.
The Northeast NEWS isn’t all we offer. Every month Northeast NEWS carries Rigs & Roughnecks, a supplement – really a complete newspaper within the larger newspaper -devoted to stories about the people, issues and events of the Northeastern BC oil patch. The ONLY publication ever devoted to the oil and gas sector in this region, it’s delivered with the Northeast NEWS right into the oil patch camps.
This website is another step in the Northeast NEWS evolution. Designed to be user friendly, it contains every complete edition of the Northeast NEWS, plus it offers you the opportunity to send us news events, photos, letters to the editor – you can even book a classified or display ad online!
